With promotion methods like these, there is no doubt people will hear about the new Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio-album. The album title means ‘masturbation’, a worldwide request to send in masturbation-photos, with the result of the pictures being used in the artwork. I wonder how many people participated in this interesting and so I believe unique request. We’ll have to wait a bit longer, for the CD-version of this album won’t be released until the end of January. Until then, we’ll have to settle with the vinyl-release of the album, which was delivered to my doorsteps on the next-to-last day of the last year.
The record itself is white, and has a little fault: the A-side and B-side are switched, leaving a slight surprise to the listener. The cover is foilprinted red on white, and looks simple, but delicate and organized. Just as the music itself, actually: Ordo never before wrote an album so accessible. There is barely any room for the guitar-strokes that were so identifying for “CCCP” and “Apocalips”, but that leaves the album with a warm and satisfying sound obviously mostly carried by Tomas’ voice. And samples, samples are included as usual: Italian ones on ‘Amore Rosso, Amore Marrone, Amore Nero’ and obviously sexually tainted samples are scattered all around the record; and on “ONANI” more than ever, for obvious reason. Titles like ‘Glory To Thee, My Beloved Masturbator’ and ‘Let Me Show You, All The Secrets Of The Torture Garden’ speak for themselves in that matter.
Luckily, Ordo doesn’t focus on promoting provocation, but manages to write a number of good songs in the process. Even though it is already a pleasure reading the song titles, it is even more a pleasure listening to them. Accessible they are, so I mentioned, but who had expected differently after the minialbums “Satyriasis” and “Four”? Pessimists will no doubt call this a “safe” and “expectable” album - with all understanding - but that doesn’t mean there’s no quality involved. The lyrics are strong, the music is diverse and solid, with the overall sphere being once again outstanding. Listen to ‘Can You Hear The Devils Laughing? (Or Is It Just Me)’, ‘I W I L L; Even After The Flowers Are Gone’ or the dark, electronic ‘Confessions Of A Sinflower’ and try to conclude differently that saying that “Onani” is well-worth your time.
